Henry Cavill criticizes sex scenes and declares he is not a fan of them: “When… is When You Start to Feel Uncomfortable”

Henry Cavill has expressed his distaste for the sex scenes that are shown in television shows and films these days. The former Superman actor discussed the increasing popularity of personal sequences on television in a recent discussion, and he said that he believes they are being “overused” at the moment. Cavill, who was most recently seen in Argylle, said that sometimes it’s OK to leave certain things up to the imagination.

During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with his director Matthew Vaughn for Argylle, Cavill shared his opinions regarding the sex scenes that are now portrayed in movies. I’m not a fan of them; I don’t understand them. He said, “I think sometimes they’re overused these days, but there are situations where a sex scene actually benefits a movie, rather than just the audience,” as Variety noted.

“It’s when you’re thinking, ‘Is this really necessary, or are these just people wearing less clothing?’” he said. At that point, you start to feel uneasy and begin to consider that this isn’t a performance. “There isn’t a single scene that will continue throughout the entire film,” he said.

Cavill agreed that “sex scenes can be great in a movie” and “can really help with the storytelling” in certain situations. The human imagination will usually prevail over it. Therefore, if a TV program or movie is simply full of gyrating bodies and you’re thinking, “Okay, but what is this doing for us aside from the idea of, ‘Oh naked person, great,’” then it may be a bit of a cop-out.

In the meanwhile, Cavill seems to find it effective that Argylle has no sexual scene. Last week, the movie was released in theaters. Along with Cavill, the picture stars John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’Hara, and Dua Lipa.
