WTC points table: South Africa continues to decline as New Zealand maintains its advantage at the top

<p>With a historic 2-0 victory against South Africa, New Zealand has increased their lead at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Both New Zealand and South Africa had a 50 points percentage (PCT) before into the series, but after winning both of their games against the inexperienced Proteas team, the Kiwis had increased their PCT to 75. <p>After smashing his 32nd century in the format and amassing 403 runs, including three hundreds, to lead his team to a 7-wicket victory in the second Test in Hamilton, former captain Kane Williamson was named player of the series.</p>
<p>South Africa dropped to eighth place on the standings, one spot above bottom-placed Sri Lanka, as a result of New Zealand’s victory. South Africa is level with England, although they are ranked seventh on the table since the team captained by Ben Stokes has won more games.</p>
<p>In other news, the third Test between India and England is scheduled for Rajkot. Should the hosts secure a 2-1 lead, their PCT would increase to 59.5, allowing them to overtake Australia for second place. With the Australia-New Zealand Test series scheduled to begin in parallel on February 29, the positions will yet change.</p>
