A Device That Can Stop 50% Rapes in India: World’s First Technology Invented in India

A Device That Can Stop 50% Rapes in India: World’s First Technology Invented in India

In a country where women are often respected as goddesses, a harsh reality still exists.

Crimes like rape, acid attacks, molestation, harassment, and domestic violence continue to happen every day. This painful truth pushed one woman to take action and create something powerful that could change the situation.

In 2018, Srishti Sharma, an entrepreneur from Haryana, founded Shakti Wearables with one clear goal: to help women feel safe without relying on anyone else. Shakti wearables started as a small safety company, but now, it’s a defence company. They are not only working for women’s safety, but they are also doing a lot of work for the Indian Army as well by the name of “Project Veer”. Shakti Wearables is transforming personal safety with innovative, wearable defence products. The company focuses on empowering women by giving them a reliable way to protect themselves from serious threats. Their designs are simple, smart, and easy to use, helping women move freely and confidently without fear.

She noticed that many existing safety solutions were not effective enough. For example, pepper spray takes time to use in dangerous situations. In real-life situations, many women are unable to use pepper spray in time because it requires multiple steps taking it out from the bag, aiming, and spraying which can be difficult during sudden attacks. Do you really think a woman gets enough time and presence of mind to pull out and use pepper spray during a sudden attack? A large GPS tracking or location sharing system depends heavily on the police or family, and during that waiting time, a woman is often left helpless. There was no instant help available when it was needed the most. That is why she decided to create something different something that puts real power directly in the hands of women.

This is how the Shakti Band was created.

The Shakti Band is a wearable safety device designed for instant protection. It looks like a simple band, but it has a powerful feature inside. In a dangerous situation, the user can activate the band, which delivers a non-lethal electric shock to the attacker. This immediate

action can disable the attacker for 2 to 3 minutes, making him unable to move, giving the woman time to escape and protect herself. Unlike other solutions, it does not depend on anyone else. It provides instant help exactly when it is needed. At the same time, the live location of the user, which will be active for 8 hours, will be sent to the nearest police station and their family and friends so the other help is also on their way to help her. The watch is also waterproof, so even in the rain, users can wear and use it without any fear of getting electrocuted.

The vision behind Shakti Wearables is simple but strong to create a world where women can live independently, travel alone, and go about their daily lives without fear. The products are discreet, easy to carry, and highly effective, allowing women to stay safe without drawing attention.

The company is also working beyond personal safety. Shakti Wearables is supporting the Indian Army by providing advanced non-lethal defence solutions, helping soldiers handle difficult situations safely.

It took 6 years to complete the Shakti Band. They faced multiple failures, multiple members of the team were hospitalised while testing the band, so that women get the best protection.

What makes this innovation even more powerful is that it is not just an idea it has already been presented to some of the top leaders of the country. The technology has been demonstrated in front of Narendra Modi, Piyush Goyal, Kiran Bedi, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Bandaru Dattatreya, receiving strong appreciation and support.

Today, as crime rates against women continue to rise, innovations like the Shakti Band are offering a new kind of hope. Many believe that if such devices are widely used, they can reduce a large number of crimes in India, even up to 50%.

This is not just a product. It is a movement. A shift from fear to power.

And maybe, just maybe, this is how India starts fighting back against crime one woman at a time.
