Rajinikanth travels to Vijayawada to take part in NTR's 100th birthday festivities

To take part in the centennial celebrations of Telugu hero Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, often known as NTR, Tamil actor Rajinikanth landed here on Friday.
Rajinikanth was welcomed at Gannavaram Airport by N. Balakrishna, NTR's son and a well-known Tollywood star.
The event will take place in the city on Friday night, and the celebrity will be there. N. Chandrababu Naidu, the head of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and other leaders will be present.
Balakrishna, also known as Balayya, has asked his followers to attend the festivities.
NTR was a great Tollywood actor who was revered as a deity among Telugu speakers. He appeared in more than 300 films and was well recognised for playing legendary figures.
In nearly 17 films, including Krishnarjuna Yudham (1962) and Dana Veera Soora Karna, NTR portrayed Lord Krishna.
He joined politics in 1982 by launching the TDP on the platform of “self-respect,” and he set a record by taking office in less than nine months.
NTR, who was born on May 28th, 1923, in Andhra Pradesh, presided over the state's unified government from 1983 to 1989. In December 1994, he returned the TDP to power with a resounding win, but a few months later, his son-in-law Chandrabu Naidu staged a coup because he disapproved of Lakshmi Parvathi, NTR's second wife, meddling in party and administrative issues.
In September 1995, Naidu ousted NTR from office with the support of NTR's children from his first wife. On January 18, 1996, the founder of the TDP had a heart attack.
